Ann Calvello

Ann Calvello was inducted into the National Roller Derby Hall of Fame in 1968. Her career — which stretched across more than five decades, beginning in the 1940s and continuing into the 21st century — places her among the longest-tenured competitive athletes the sport has produced.

Known widely as 'The Bad Girl' for her aggressive, theatrical style and ever-changing dyed hair, Calvello competed in nearly every major incarnation of roller derby across that timespan, including the Seltzer-era Bombers, the Roller Games circuit, and revival leagues into her seventies. She was one of the most photographed and televised women in the sport's history.
