Community roles & review responsibilities

Access is based on trust, demonstrated reliability, assigned responsibility, and least privilege — never on contribution volume. Roles range from Public Visitor and Registered Member, through Contributor, Trusted Contributor, and Subject Reviewer, to Curator, Archive Administrator, System Administrator, and the Owner / platform-governance tier.

Current status & roadmap

Every capability above carries an honest status label — we never say "coming soon" without saying why:

  • Available Now — live for the public today.
  • Available to Authorized Roles — live for signed-in roles with the right permission.
  • Built in Preview — implemented and testable; not yet switched on.
  • Temporarily Disabled — built but gated off by a governance flag (e.g., public contributions).
  • Blocked by External Integration — awaiting owner-controlled provider access (facial recognition, OCR).
  • Planned / Under Evaluation — approved for later, or an idea being assessed.

Frequently asked

Is Roller Derby Legacy free?

Yes. The public archive is free with no paywall, and public access is intended to remain permanent. Accounts and contribution tools are being introduced under careful governance.

Can I contribute right now?

Not yet. The full contribution workflow is built in preview and will open once every review, rights, evidence, and publication safeguard is verified. Until then, contribution features are shown as Temporarily Disabled or Built in Preview.

How do you keep the history accurate?

Canonical facts are source-backed and kept separate from community memories and research suggestions. Every change is reviewed, versioned, audited, and reversible — and records are tombstoned rather than physically deleted.

Do AI suggestions become fact automatically?

No. AI-generated descriptions and suggestions are advisory only and always require human review. Production facial-recognition and document-OCR providers remain blocked until owner-controlled access is verified; development uses no real facial recognition.

How do people get more responsibility?

Elevated, scoped access is granted on demonstrated reliability, historical care, policy compliance, and community need — never automatically by contribution count. See the Community Roles page for the full model.
