The portrait-style drawing shows a large-headed roller skater wearing a helmet, round glasses, gloves, knee pads, pants, and quad skates. Visible text reads “Esther Nail,” “caricature of ‘Esther Nail’,” and “Birthday, Nov. 5.”
The lower inscription includes the artist name (Chas.) Charles R. Steindl and a copyright date of March 13, 1939. After he had emigrated to the U.S.A., Hungarian-born Charles R. Steindl first worked as a photographer. Later, in the 1930s, he wisely turned to the art of caricature, which brought him recognition.
